Community Center Planning & Preliminary Design Committee (CCPPDC)

OUR MISSION
At the March 25, 2017 Town Meeting, under Article #35, the Board of Selectmen (BOS) asked the voters to appropriate $150,000 for the purpose of funding a feasibility study and preliminary design development plans for a community center to be located within the Hartwell Complex of the Ballfield Road campus. The proposal was approved by a substantial margin, and received the necessary vote at the ballot so that the funds would be provided through a one-time exclusion from Proposition 2 ½.

To carry out the study, the BOS has convened the Community Center Planning & Preliminary Design Committee (CCPPDC). The purpose of the CCPPDC, which will work under the guidance of the Board of Selectmen and in collaboration with the School Building Committee, is to advance the planning of a Community Center to the next stage. This will include further definition of the program, the development of a range of site plans, preliminary design development, and more refined cost estimates.

In the process, the CCPPDC will be building on the work of the 2012, 2015 and 2016 planning committees whose work is summarized in the links to the right. It will also collaborate with the School Building Committee to ensure the appropriate alignment of decision points and milestones, so that any proposals are considered within the context of a Lincoln School project and the Ballfield Road campus.

...and let's get ready to do it again!

Maryann Thompson Architects truly appreciates the feedback residents provided via the "Wish List" and "Character Study". While we were filling those out, the MTA team met with Council on Aging and Parks and Recreation staff to discuss the program needs for each/both. They also toured several facilities to look for things we're not yet thinking of; and brought these ideas back for further discussion. The first phase of their design process is going to be well informed!

The second phase of their design process begins the day after our next PUBLIC FORUM! On Tuesday, January 30th*, in the Hartwell B-Pod, we have a morning meeting scheduled from 8:00am to 10:00am and an evening meeting scheduled from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. You will be able to see some designs specifically for the Hartwell Campus.

And, it is very fitting that we shall be holding our meetings on the Hartwell Campus as this location is the acknowledged future site for our community center. After studies (and studies...), discussion and input from Town Meetings, review by town safety personnel, program reviews by the schools and town officials, the Hartwell Campus is decidedly the right place for the Lincoln Community Center. After our January 30th meetings, step out and envision the transformed space!

Yours,

Margit Griffith
