Massachusetts law, and the Commonwealth’s Voter Registration system, require each municipality, through its Town or City Clerk’s Office, to confirm the identity of every person - young and old, registered to vote or not, new comer or old timer – residing in town at the beginning of each year.
The Town Census is mailed to all known households in late January and the information provided on the returns is reported in each spring’s annual Street Listing. Information regarding children sixteen and younger is protected by law and held in confidence. The data gathered permits the Town to more accurately estimate resident requirements in terms, for example, of public safety or public education, and to more appropriately allocate the Town’s resources.
The response of every residential household to the Town Census is important and is required by law. If you are in need of a blank Census form, please download the form here and complete and return to the Town Clerk’s Office by mail or email.
The Federal Census is conducted decennially and provides additional information about the town. Lincoln information derived from the 2000 and 2010 federal census is available here http://factfinder2.census.gov/faces/nav/jsf/pages/community_facts.xhtml.
